At Expat Focus, we like to be on the lookout for resources around the web that could help prospective expats adjust to their new countries. Today, we’re taking a look at Egypt and some of the social media accounts you should be following if you’re thinking of moving there.Daily News Egypt

Egypt’s only independent daily newspaper in English, Daily News Egypt covers politics, business, opinion, lifestyle, sports and cartoons, among other sections. This is a useful Facebook page and Twitter account for expats to follow for an overview of what’s making headlines, and for a deeper dive into news and issues in their new country.

Expat Cooks in Egypt

Sometimes it can be tough-to-impossible to recreate your favourite dishes from home when you’re an expat. Expat Cooks in Egypt understand this completely, and they share food ideas and recipe adaptations with more than 1,000 members. You’ll also find them posting recipes and inspiration on Twitter. They’re not too picky about whether you’re a ‘true’ expat; just play by the group rules and you’ll find loads of kitchen inspiration.

This is a closed Facebook group where expatriates in Egypt can connect to talk about their life and share tips and advice. Everything from looking for a job to places to live, and arranging social meetup nights and networking events. Admins closely monitor the topics in this group and screen those who request to join. While no topic is really off-limits, they warn it’s not a page for selling or trying to find a date; so best stick to tinder for that!

Expat Women in Egypt

A closed group for expat women only, who are living – or will be living – in Egypt. The group prides itself on being a non judgemental and safe space for its members to network, share their knowledge, ideas and stories about life in their new home. Member discussions vary and include upcoming activities, events and job opportunities.

Expat Women in Cairo (EWIC)

This is a closed group specifically for expat women in Cairo. Admins run a tight ship for the benefit of all members (no soliciting posts etc), and you’re encouraged to use the group’s ‘search’ function to check for previous discussions on your topic of interest. From recommended Arabic teachers, to home help and where to find various items in Cairo that are common for you back home – you’re sure to find an answer to your question.

Egyptian Law for Foreigners

Navigating the legal system in a foreign country can be no easy task. In this group, members are able to ask questions, share their experiences with the Egyptian legal system, find and recommend lawyers. Politics and discussion of topics of a personal nature are off-limits and any private cases shared within the group must remain there.
