Online Courses For Expats Moving Abroad

If you intend to move abroad, it’s essential to do adequate research – for example, you may need to learn about visas or how to navigate the local healthcare system. With so much to think about, it’s easy to become overwhelmed or forget something important, and you may decide to enrol on an online (or eLearning) course, which gathers all the information you need and puts it in one place. In this article, we’ll take a look at some courses currently on offer to expats, and also tell you more about new courses coming soon from Expat Focus.

How to choose the right course

‘How to move’ courses usually take one of two forms. Either they act as step-by-step guides to the practicalities of moving – covering things like visas, accommodation, money, etc. – or they help expats understand what they want from their move abroad and where they want to go.

Which type you select will depend on your personal circumstances. For example, if you have not yet got a firm job offer but like the idea of life as a digital nomad, a course that helps you to develop your goals might be a good initial step. If, however, you already know exactly where you want to go, then you may prefer a course that provides country-specific information and advice.

When selecting a course, make sure you check for testimonials, and don’t be afraid to ask questions, such as what additional resources are available. If you are moving abroad because you have received a job offer, it may be worth contacting your new employer to see whether their HR department can offer an in-house course on relocating. If not, set down exactly what you want your chosen course to cover, and make sure you prioritise trusted course providers and websites.
