The blog of a Canadian expat who now lives and works in Hong Kong, This Girl Abroad is filled with enthusiastic posts about life in Hong Kong, as well as tips for travelling to neighbouring countries. The ‘Average Day in Hong Kong’ series discusses what life is like on a day-to-day basis, with a mixture of humour and realism that will give any prospective expats a good idea of what life is really like there. There is also a section on teaching abroad, discussing the joys and challenges of teaching in a foreign country.Life with Sprogs
Lisamaree, an expat from New Zealand, blogs about bringing up children in Hong Kong. There are categories devoted to finding the best geek culture hangouts in Hong Kong, as well as eating out and recreating traditional recipes. A nice mixture of posts about things to do, and personal experiences as an expat parent, Life with Sprogs is a must-read for any families who are thinking of making the move.
Oneika the Traveller
A self-confessed serial traveller, Oneika currently resides in Hong Kong and blogs about living there. The blog covers a whole host of useful topics, including tips on travelling on a budget, hiking in Hong Kong and restaurant recommendations (take a look at the recent ‘Robot Restaurant’ post from Tokyo!). As well as the fun-filled posts about the city, there are also more serious posts concerning international politics, things Oneika misses about the countries she’s left, and the face of modern racism.
HK in HK
Hollie moved to Hong Kong three years ago and has been blogging about her adventures there ever since. Featuring in-depth posts that discuss the ins and outs of living in Hong Kong and being an expat in general, HK in HK approaches expat life with a sense of humour and an analytical mindset. The blog will prove useful for anyone who wants a detailed and comprehensive overview of everyday life in Hong Kong.
Miss Fong in Hong Kong
An intriguing blog that mixes humour, long-form posts and cartoon illustrations, Miss Fong in Hong Kong discusses everyday life in Hong Kong with a humorous disposition. Her journal ranges through all sorts of topics, from local political activists to Chinese New Year celebrations and the rejection of the Mooncup by mainstream Hong Kong society. There’s even a section devoted to drawings of the beggars of Hong Kong, which provides a very unusual touch and really brings the city to life.
