Poland – Top Five Expat Blogs

At Expat Focus, we like to be on the lookout for resources around the web that could help prospective expats adjust to their new countries. Today, we’re taking a look at Poland and some of the bloggers who write about living there.

The Home Of The Twisted Red Ladybug

A self-confessed travel lover and photo maniac, Anda is a Romanian expat who now lives in Krakow. Her posts are informative and cover all the things you’ll need to know about expat life in Poland, from overviews of the currency and exchange rates to where to find good cheese shops, bakeries and opera houses in and around Krakow. Twisted Red Ladybug reads like a letter to a friend – if you’ve ever had a pen pal, reading this blog will be reminiscent of the air mail that used to drop onto your doorstep when snail mail was a more popular option.

The Warsaw That I Saw Was Not An Eyesore

Its name reads like a limerick, and the content of this blog is laid out with a similar level of wordsmithery, accompanied by atmospheric images that complement the posts perfectly. If you’re on the fence about whether you want to move to Poland, Garth’s blog will almost certainly persuade you of some of the reasons why you should. Providing snapshots of day to day life in Poland’s sprawling capital, the blog gives its readers an accurate and intriguing glimpse of what life there is really like.

A 23-year-old expat from Mexico City, Jose David now lives in Warsaw with two dogs and a hedgehog, where he plays football for Inter Warszawa and blogs about both sides of his life: both the things he discovers about living in Poland, and the things he misses about Mexico. If you’re a relatively new expat or you’re concerned about moving far from your friends and family – and especially if you’re a young person about to move away from home for the first time – Chido-Fajny will feel very relatable.

My Travelling Joys

Australian expat Joy originally moved to Istanbul but relocated to Warsaw in 2013. An honest writer who doesn’t shy away from sharing the more challenging aspects of expat life, Joy gives her readers an excellent overview of what it’s like to live in Poland and how to make the most of the expat adventure. The ‘Poland Trips’ category provides updates on Joy’s travels around the country, so if you’re not yet sure which part of Poland is for you, this is a great resource to look at.

Tiffany Victoria Horan

Tiffany is an artist and teacher who moved from Britain to Poland via Taiwan. Her blog contains fairly long-form posts covering topics from teaching to food preparation to the nature of personality. The blog is cleanly laid out, with large pictures illustrating each article, and provides a nice juxtaposition of the personal, the professional and the purely philosophical. If you are a foodie, if you enjoy crisp design and if you enjoy getting to know the blogger behind the blog, Tiffany’s site will be a welcome addition to your reading list.

Those are our recommended expat blogs for today. Do you write about being an expat? Let us know in the comments!
