At Expat Focus, we like to be on the lookout for resources around the web that could help prospective expats adjust to their new countries. Today, we’re taking a look at Slovakia and some of the blogs that might be useful for expats there.
The Daily SK
An English-language newspaper that will keep you up to date on both local and international news, The Daily SK is a useful resource for keeping in touch with what’s going on both in Slovakia and elsewhere.‘The Expat’, a section that can be accessed from the top menu, contains news that is particularly of interest to people who have recently made the move.
Englishman In Slovakia
With a huge variety of information, particularly about the various places to go and things to see around the country, Englishman In Slovakia is an excellent resource, whether you’ve yet to decide where to move to, or are just looking for other places in Slovakia to visit on day trips. The ‘Survival Section’ will prove useful to anyone who’s finding the adjustment difficult. If you’re a foodie, take a look at the ‘Slovakian Recipes’ section for inspiration about the local cuisine.
Naomi is a mum of four who lives in Slovakia and writes about her day to day life there. She has lived in Slovakia for ten years, so she certainly knows her stuff and her posts are both knowledgeable and relatable for new and established expats alike. Once again, the ‘Recipes’ section is well worth a look if you enjoy cooking, but perhaps the most interesting part for newer expats is the ‘Slovakia’ section, which discusses local customs and traditions.
If you’re an expat who’s based in Slovakia but travels frequently – whether for work or leisure – this site will feel very relatable. With tips and tricks for frequent flyers, discussions of what it’s like to be almost constantly on the road, and of course posts about expat life in Slovakia itself, Homo Avionus is a fun blog that tells it like it is.
We’re always on the lookout for more sites to feature – if you run a blog about living in Slovakia, leave us a link in the comments and we’ll take a look!
