At Expat Focus, we like to be on the lookout for resources around the web that could help prospective expats adjust to their new countries. Today, we’re taking a look at Malaysia and some of the social media accounts you should be following if you’re thinking of moving there.

KL Expat Malaysia
Facebook Page | Instagram

KL Expat Malaysia (KLEM) is an initiative of British Expat Stuart Yeomans. He founded KLEM in 2010 and the group and web page have been been growing from strength to strength ever since. This resulting Facebook page helps expats make connections, and hosts a variety of events from simple networking meetups through to charity car drives and sporting events. Their goal is to always help the local community and encourage ties between expats and Malaysian locals.

ExpatGo Malaysia
Facebook Page | Twitter | Instagram

The Malaysian chapter of this international media body is a vibrant and engaged community dedicated to publishing news and lifestyle articles, in aid of expats living better in Malaysia. The main focus of their social media accounts is to reach Malaysians and expats alike, sharing interesting local stories with an international perspective and a variety of topics.

Female Expats and Locals in Kuala Lumpur
Facebook Group

Created as a safe haven for women to chat and share stories, the
Female Expats and Locals in Kuala Lumpur Facebook group is a welcoming community of ladies. The group administrators are thorough in checking all members ensuring that fake and spam accounts are filtered out, and ensure that the group is kept as friendly and helpful as possible.

Expats in Johor Bahru
Facebook Page

Johor Bahru is the capital of the Malaysian state of Johor, sitting at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. With a causeway across the Straits of Johor connecting it to Singapore, it’s a gateway for exploration of that island nation. It's no surprise with this mix of cultures, that the timeline of the Expats in Johor Bahru Facebook page is a curious mix of quirky articles and moments to make their followers smile.

Malaysia - Through the Lens of Expat Women
Facebook Page

This Facebook page unites an intriguing collection of expat women working on a charity project combining their enthusiasm for photography with the urge to give something back to the beautiful country they live in. This idea is a spinoff of an initiative first started in Romania, before spreading across the world. Eventually the plan is to release a book in aid of raising funds for the charity.

Kuala Lumpur Expats
Facebook Group

This extremely active Facebook group welcomes all expats in Kuala Lumpur - future, present and past. The 23,000+ members love to chat all topics expat in style and encourage anyone new to Malaysia or thinking of going here to feel free to post the questions they have playing on their mind.

Expat Angela in Malaysia
Facebook Page | Twitter | Instagram

Angela has been a digital nomad exploring the world one city at a time since she was 21, and has explored 32 countries on 4 continents. After living in 7 countries, she has settled in Malaysia (for now) where she is settling into the challenges and joys of an expat lifestyle. Her blog features heartfelt articles on travel and personal experiences, a perfect read for new and long term expatriates alike.

Expats Basketball - Malaysia
Facebook Page

This amateur sports team has two things in common - distant homes and a penchant for slam dunking. A perfect platform for making new friends whilst keeping hearts healthy, this Facebook page is a perfect place to start a new passion. As Michael Jordan so eloquently phrases it - “Success doesn’t stop when you get there."

Expats World Kuala Lumpur
Facebook Group

Set up for all expats living in Kuala Lumpur - or people with plans to move to the city - this public Facebook group is an essential platform. The members love to help, answering questions, providing hard earned advice and assisting with practical problems. Topics discussed are as varied as the nationalities present in this friendly space.

We Were Expats in Malaysia / Singapore Page
Facebook Page

Sadly one of the bittersweet results of living an expat dream is the end of a chapter, and this Facebook page is a perfect way to keep in contact with friends who have moved to pastures greener. Set up as a base to look for old expat friends that had lived in Malaysia (Malaya) and Singapore (especially ex-planters, miners & forces, etc) members share memories of their former lives and make contact with people who they thought they may never speak with again.

We’re always on the lookout for more accounts to feature - if you write about living in Malaysia on social media, leave us a link in the comments and we’ll take a look!
