At Expat Focus, we like to be on the lookout for resources around the web that could help prospective expats adjust to their new countries. Today, we’re taking a look at the UK and some of the social media accounts you should be following if you’re thinking of moving there.

Expats living in Surrey UK

A place where expats can come together, to share their successes and failures, completely without judgement. Topics as simple as finding a trusted babysitter, a certain ingredient or a friendly ear to vent to over coffee can all be found in this group. With two hundred members and all nationalities welcome, this group is a great place to start making some connections to help you settle into your expat life in the UK.

American (and Canadian) Expats of NW England
Facebook Group

If you’ve found yourself up in the North West of England be sure that there are others out there just like you. Support and friendship is the offer from this non-profit group, the close-knit community has grown quickly to almost two hundred members. Happy to accept prospective expats as well as current ones, you could have a new social network in place before you even land in the country.

American Expat Moms in the UK
Facebook Group

Raising a family away from loved ones can be difficult; this group provides help and reassurance to expat mums as well as some useful tips and hints about elements if the British system which are different to that in the USA. Issues are dealt with respectfully and no question is too silly to ask in this supportive and encouraging group.

Anca's Lifestyle
Instagram

Romanian-born Anca has lived in Liverpool, UK for five years with her husband and an adorable Rottweiler named Festus. An avid blogger, she likes to share most of the elements of her expat life, from vegetarian cooking to exploring Britain and beyond with an eye on dog friendly locations. Adopting traditions, particularly in the kitchen has allowed her to expand her cooking knowledge and her love for all things British.

Morgan Kasmarik
Twitter | Instagram

Sports reporter Morgan refers to herself as ‘another Aussie expat’ who calls London home. Making the most of her life in Europe, she travels frequently, so as you would expect her travel photos are pretty stunning and alongside her recent sailing adventures, make her Instagram feed enviable. Though a fairly recent expat she has not wasted a minute trying out all that Europe has to offer in the way of food, friendship and adventure.

Sally Herd
Twitter

Sally is a Canadian in London. Her feed is filled with an entertaining range of world politics mixed with a helpful dose of satire. She enjoys comparing the rapidly changing political agendas of countries she is connected with and exploring all that London and the UK has to offer to a curious expat.

Valerie Minor
Twitter | Instagram

American-born Valerie is a food and fitness obsessed newlywed living in London. Together with her American husband she runs an American sandwich shop and hopes to win over more than just the locals with their American breakfasts. Some helpful tips on expat life, travel and staying connected to your roots can be found on her feed, together with some tasty looking meals from in and around London.

Jenna McFeta
Twitter

Jenna is an American living in Glasgow, Scotland with her family. A lover of sarcasm and permanently on the search for decent Mexican food is the essence of this expat. She muses about the passing of time, her babies growing up and the sometimes strange life of being a foreigner, even when you speak the same native language.

Kym Hamer
Twitter

Forty-something Australian Kym has been living in the UK since 2004. With so many years of experience behind her she is a must read for any prospective expats, and her delivery with a healthy dose of Aussie irreverence is refreshing. The time and distance can make it difficult to stay connected with her family and friends in Australia but she approaches such challenges with a determination learnt from looking at life from unusual perspectives.

We’re always on the lookout for more accounts to feature - if you write about living abroad on social media, leave us a link in the comments and we’ll take a look!
