At Expat Focus, we like to be on the lookout for resources around the web that could help prospective expats adjust to their new countries. Today, we’re taking a look at Saudi Arabia and some of the blogs that might be useful for expats there.

Lost In Riyadh

The German author of Lost In Riyadh chose to narrate her blog focusing on the realistic positives of living in the Middle Eastern city of Riyadh as a woman. Giving up her relatively unsupervised and carefree bachelorette’s life in Berlin for the cultural expectations of Saudi Arabia has led to the collection of insightful musings about expat life in the Gulf.

Susie Of Arabia

Award-winning and possibly one of the best known expat bloggers in the Gulf coastline, American expat Susie has been sharing her adventures and bubbly personality since 2007. Writing about all kinds of topics, sharing her daily Jeddah photos (on a separate related blog) and opening a window onto the life of a long-term expat, Susie of Arabia offers a fascinating insight.

Life In Yanbu

Sharing not only the delectable recipes of her kitchen, but also her experiences as a South-Indian woman in the Saudi city of Yanbu, Famidha and as a trailing spouse. With beautiful photography, a wry sense of humour and the sense that she would be lovely in real life, Life In Yanbu is a great resource for anyone looking to move to the country.

Kiwi Living In Saudi

Gaelene relocated from the luscious green forests of NZ to the desert sands and lack of beer in Saudi Arabia - but hasn't lost her verve or uniquely kiwi sense of place. Writing about issues of the day, charting her personal journey and sharing her favourite things to do in the skyscraper-filled metropolis of Riyadh, this is an intriguing read.

Kristine Wanders

Canadian Kristine has wanderlusted her way around the world, but her passion for healthcare and nursing has always been an underlying catalyst to where she chooses her home. Returning to Saudi Arabia recently for two years, she journals both the challenges and rewards of living in such a rich culture, and the bittersweet thoughts of living there.

The Arab Mode

Living in a different culture, thousands of miles away from home can make expats feel that they are a bit out of the loop, (or as the author puts it "living under a rock, mindless and clueless") but beautifully curated lifestyle blog The Arab Mode is an excellent resource for combating this uncertainty. Featuring events in Jeddah, foodie recommendations and some excellent posts about relationships, this blog is one to bookmark.

A Season In The Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia

Teaching ESL to local students and riding as many surf waves as he can crest, this UK expat is in Saudi for an extended season, discovering the cultural curiosities of the conservative Kingdom. Sharing his thoughts and experiences in the Arab peninsula, this blog is full of excellent practical advice.

Bring The Kids

Charting their adventures not only through the desert culture of Saudi Arabia, but also as parents learning to guide their precious charges, Bring The Kids is a fantastic, personalised resource with a unique tone for expats wanting a real view on family life in KSA.

Foreign Girl

Chronicling her adventures as a curious expat, Margo shares both her past adventures living in the Saudi Arabian state - alongside the unexpected challenges that came up - and the new challenges as she repatriates. Full of wisdom, advice and daily life in a foreign culture - not to mention an excellent post dedicated to frequently asked questions - this is a blog worth spending time getting to know.

Claire's Ale

5 years ago Claire and her family made the decision to move to Saudi Arabia, intending to stay as long as they were happy. With 3 month summer holidays, almost uninterrupted sunshine and a burgeoning community gathering around their workplace, it isn't hard to see why they are still there.

We’re always on the lookout for more sites to feature - if you run a blog about living in Saudi Arabia, leave us a link in the comments and we’ll take a look!
