Do you remember that bit in The Wizard of Oz where Dorothy is desperate to get home to Aunty Em but at the same time doesn’t want to leave her new friends in The Emerald City, but then she does get home and she realises it was all a wonderful, scary, crazy dream? Good Goodbyes

Following advice from a seminar that I attended at the children’s International School (essentially to make sure that we all got closure), the last two weeks of our time in Switzerland have been spent saying “Goodbye”. The children have had playdates galore whilst, as a family, we have been enjoying the most of Switzerland’s greatest asset - the Great Outdoors.

Now, we are not a hugely adventurous/outdoorsy/active family yet we have been profoundly touched by the beauty and adventure presented in the backdrop to our daily life.    more ...

Moving house is apparently one of life’s most stressful events. It stands to reason then that moving country when you move house tops that. So, moving house and moving countries twice within a year has to be right up there with standing in a bath of creepy crawlies whilst having cold baked beans thrown at you. The Cost Of Living In Switzerland

One thing that I won’t miss about Switzerland when we return to the UK is the cost of, well, everything. Before we moved out here we knew that it was one of the most expensive places to live, with the highest cost of living in the world, but I don’t think it really sank in until I did my first supermarket shop which reduced me to tears in the tinned food aisle and was singlehandedly The Most Terrifying Experience of My Life. Admittedly this wasn’t only down to the cost of groceries but it was definitely a large part of the trauma.    more ...
